Located in a quiet neighborhood of Alberta in northeast Portland, this home has an eye-catching front porch, complete with a new door in a lively yellow orange.
The homeowners desired a remodel that would offer improvements to better support their family and complement their lifestyle. The entire front half of the home was upgraded, which included adding a bedroom and office, as well as reconfiguring the kitchen and living room to create an open concept. Because a load-bearing wall was removed to facilitate this change, two big structural beams were appended to help support the roofline.
To retain the historical aspect of the home and add an element of interest to the space, the nearly 100-year-old 2’ x 8’ ceiling joists were left exposed.
A few modifications were also made to the basement, which consisted of structural support and a new electrical panel. Additionally, four new windows were installed.
Brushed with a calming peach-toned paint color that elevates natural light, the kitchen presents a U-shaped layout, with the oven on one side and the cooktop and range hood on the opposite.
Hardwood flooring is elegantly contrasted by a darker natural wood selected for the lower cabinets and drawers, while the upper cabinets display a soft white, tying in with the window trim and spacious farmhouse sink.
A tile backsplash in a graceful gray tone with a subtle vertical line detail, beautifully merges into a stone waterfall countertop.
Gold accents in the handles and faucet tie the space together and evoke an elevated, polished aesthetic.
Though smaller in scale, this remodel involved a high-level of craftsmanship and quality materials, for a result that lends both improved functionality and style that the family is sure to enjoy for many years ahead.
