Location

North Oregon Coast

This client chose to remodel their Oregon coast home so that they could take advantage of the spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and benefit from slower coastal living.

This beach home came with wonderful features such as exposed wood beams and joist ceilings and brick fireplaces, but the clients knew that an extensive remodel would greatly enhance and modernize this home. Hamish Murray Construction Inc.’s team took this house down to the studs and built up a new interior wall layout. Excavation was also necessary to provide new structural improvements. New plumbing, electrical, HVAC system, and a furnace were added, and new bathrooms and a kitchen were built.

The new deck has a wire cable railing made of stainless steel which will slow metal corrosion from the salty sea air. The ocean-facing windows were enlarged to optimize the ocean views from each room. The stairs going down from the deck make for easy access for walks on the beach.

The home’s exterior was designed with an unadorned modern style that includes; monochromic paint for both walls and trim, a new concrete driveway, front patio, and large concrete planter boxes with low maintenance bamboo greenery. New plumbing was placed under the home’s slab, protecting pipes from environmental elements.

The owners chose dark green-gray natural slate tile flooring throughout. Quartz kitchen countertops are accented with beautiful bright red tiles. Both the kitchen cabinets and trim are made of a quality plain sliced walnut.

Above the master bathroom’s walnut sink vanity is another stunning hexagonal-shaped tile; this one in muted lime green, complementing the red tile found in the kitchen. A free-standing porcelain tub in this spacious bathroom will be especially welcoming during inclement coastal weather.

The master bedroom holds the second original fireplace; the room layout enables the occupant to easily view both a fire and the ocean at the same time. With a calming backdrop of subdued blues, dark wood, slate floor, white walls and red brick, this room creates a peaceful setting for curling up with a good book or just enjoying the forever-changing seascape.
